New developments for the Rho range of direct to media printers
October, 2004

Durst announce two new UV curing ink sets for the Rho range at Photokina.

This represents another first for Durst as we are the first company in the world to introduce a range of ink sets for direct to media inkjet printers. The two new ink sets are in addition to our existing, world leading Flexible Set and are designed to offer an economical solution to specific types of work.

At Durst we realise that some customers have a much higher requirement for printing on one type of material or that the Durst Rho might be used almost exclusively for printing on board material, for instance. In this situation, the printer could find the one of our new ink sets represents a more practical and economic solution to their ink requirements.

The two new ink sets are, firstly, the Rigid Board Set, which is suitable for all kinds of board materials, it provides the best adhesion on acrylics and polycarbonates in the market without the need for primers. The other is the Paper Board Set, the most economical of the three ink sets, and is only suitable for boards and roll media with paper or PVC surfaces. It has only a short term outdoor durability with a maximum of ten weeks.

It is important to note that the two new ink sets are only suitable for the specific printing situations described, for all other applications the original Durst Flexible Ink Set is still the best ink available in the world.

More colour variants for the Rho 205
Also announced at Photokina is the increase in colour options available for the Rho 205. Durst was the first company to introduce the white ink underprint option now available on both the Rho 160W Plus and the Rho 205W. The unique modular concept of the Rho 205 allows us to bring new variants to the market on a regular basis. The new colour variants are as follows:

Special Effect Varnish
The specially developed varnish will allow the printer to highlight parts of an image with spot gloss or create special 3D effects. Alternatively, it is possible to varnish the whole image and create a high gloss finish.

White overprint
This new function allows printers to print white as a background colour with the standard CMYK in one process. This function is particularly successful in creating bright colours on transparent media, including; glass, acrylics, polycarbonate and PVC vinyls.

Spot colours
Customers will now be able to specify up to two spot colours in addition to the standard CMYK. This function will enable customers with a large volume of work from one specific client, to match exactly that clientπs corporate colour requirement, for example.

At present, the special colour options currently need to be specified when ordering the machine. However, in keeping with the Durst philosophy, it is our intention to supply them as an upgrade at a later date. The new capabilities for the Rho featured above are all available for immediate delivery and represent yet another reason why the Rho direct to media inkjet printers represent the most innovative range in the market.
